Dance Therapy

Dance and creative arts therapy that provides safe space for youth and families to process emotions, build confidence, and discover their voice through culturally responsive movement.

When Words Aren't Enough, Movement Speaks

Dance therapy is more than movement, it’s a powerful form of healing that allows people to express what they cannot put into words. Through rhythm, creative expression, and embodied experience, dance therapy helps youth and families process trauma, build emotional regulation skills, develop confidence, and connect with themselves and others in meaningful ways.

At Cultivating Futures, our dance and creative arts therapy programs are designed to meet participants where they are honoring their experiences, cultures, and individual needs. We create safe, affirming spaces where healing happens through movement, creativity, and authentic expression.

Since 2023, we’ve served 119 individuals through dance therapy, helping them discover strength, resilience, and joy through movement.

What is Dance Therapy?

The Power of Movement

Dance/movement therapy is a therapeutic approach that uses movement and creative expression to support mental, emotional, physical, and social wellbeing. It’s grounded in the understanding that the body and mind are interconnected—what we feel emotionally shows up in our bodies, and how we move can influence how we feel.

Dance therapy is particularly effective for:

  • Increasing self-awareness and body confidence
  • Reducing anxiety and stress
  • Improving communication and social connection
  • Developing coping strategies
  • Enhancing self-esteem and empowerment
  • Creating joy and positive experiences
  • Trauma or adverse childhood experiences
  • Anxiety, depression, or emotional dysregulation
  • Social challenges or isolation
  • Grief or loss
  • Low self-esteem or body image concerns
  • Behavioral challenges
  • Stress from school, family, or community
  • Connection and bonding opportunities
  • Safe ways to process shared experiences
